Two housebreakings – be alert – first such incidents in more than a year

Date posted: June 29, 2020

During the night, unknown persons (likely 2) entered two properties in the SMNW area (Turquoise Way and Haven Drive). The incidents are likely related and took place after each other. In the first incident, a glass pane was removed from a glass door (some clothing and necklace taken), while in the second incident, a folding sliding door was forced open (TV taken).

In both cases, the housebreaking was only noticed at daybreak but CCTV footage reveals that they took place around 1am and 3am respectively. In both cases, white external alarm beams were deliberately avoided. Full incident reporting in SMNW mail (members) and further details in incident reports on this website (SMNW members section after login).

> Some general points on enhancing our collective safety and vigilance:

  • Remain alert to your environment and any odd behaviour of persons or vehicles, sounds and agitated dogs!

  • Please ensure that especially during this time you remain connected to your neighbours on a local street-level WhatsApp group. Most streets in our SMNW have created such a group; if you are not on one yet, ask around whether your street already has one, else take the initiative to create one with your street / block.

  • If you own a SMNW radio, please keep it charged and switched on (tip: don't keep it on during charging as this damages the battery - and radio batteries are very expensive). Our SMNW 'home' channel remains Ch 7 but ADT is on Ch 13.

  • Please ensure your home alarm is in good working order and always set it overnight or when leaving your premises - have problematic or unreliable zones seen to or exclude them temporarily.

  • If you have a night-time alarm activation or your dogs inside are restless or bark, switch on all outside lights. Have your neighbours do the same. If you're with ADT, call them and request a thorough check of your garden, as a client you are entitled to this service.

  • If you have a confirmed person on your property, immediately notify the ADT car / call on SMNW radio Channel 7 / post to your street group. However, do not expose yourself to any personal risk or danger.

  • Please report a short summary of incidents or suspicious behaviour promptly to SMNW.
